What do knock sensors do
Engines with a knock sensor can reduce fuel consumption and increase torque. The knock sensor is mounted directly on the crankcase and measures the structure-borne noise using a piezoelectric measuring element. The sensor discerns knocking by its higher sound frequencies. If the sensor reports knocking, the ECU adjusts the ignition timing accordingly. Robust and compact design Reliable signal output to trigger knock-control function at different circumstances various fuel qualities.

The high-pressure sensor measures the fuel pressure in the high-pressure fuel rail of engines with gasoline direct injection GDI. The medium-pressure sensor provides a rapid and precise measurement of fuel and oil pressure in every kind of combustion engine and transmission.
The intake manifold pressure and boost pressure sensor makes it possible to quickly and precisely measure the pressure and temperature. The electronic engine control unit ECU is the central controller and heart of the engine management system. The temperature sensor measures the temperature of various fluid media, such as water, fuel, or oil for a multitude of vehicles.
Via the crankshaft speed sensor the engine management system measures the speed, position and rotational direction of the crankshaft. The engine control unit uses the camshaft position sensor to record the exact position of the camshaft.

Frequent fault symptoms are: Engine warning light comes on Error code is stored Reduced engine power Increased fuel consumption.
Failure can be caused by different reasons: Internal short circuits Breaks in wiring Wiring short circuit Mechanical damage Incorrect mounting Corrosion. Check the knock sensor: Example OK.
Testing with the multimeter. Connect the ohmmeter. Check the pin against ground using an ohmmeter. Check the respective pin at the wiring harness connector against ground using an ohmmeter and with the control unit connector removed. Photo courtesy of Wikimedia Commons. Know How. Skip to content The knock sensor creates a voltage signal based on the vibrations caused by engine detonation.
Where are these sensors located? Will a malfunctioning knock sensor illuminate the check engine light or affect vehicle operation?
